About Us

Jersey Asbestos Limited (previously SB Asbestos (Jersey) Ltd) has over 40 years of experience working in the construction industry in Jersey and the UK and during that time has had a lot of experience working with asbestos.

As some people are not aware, despite being banned in 1999, The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have estimated that currently, in the UK, asbestos deaths are still in excess of 5000 every year. Mesothelioma accounts for a large majority of these deaths with an estimated total of 2268 in 2021.

Asbestos didn’t disappear when it was banned in the UK and we know that it remains in millions of homes and buildings.

Asbestos exposure is still the single greatest cause of work-related deaths in Great Britain with those carrying out repairs or refurbishment work being at a higher risk of disturbing asbestos, especially when working in houses.

Builders, carpenters, electricians, joiners, plasterers, plumbers, and roofers, are just some of the trades being urged to take the risks of asbestos seriously.

With this in mind, we approached Highlands College and asked if our company could provide free asbestos awareness courses to the students at Highlands College to try and reduce these deaths of the tradesman that are inheriting the legacy of asbestos-containing materials that were used significantly in Jersey over the last century, Which I am very glad to say they excepted, and we are open to re-intrioducing this service in the future if highlands we willing to have us do so.

All our surveyors have sat and passed the U.K.A.T.A. P402, P405 courses, and hold the BOHS (British Occupational Hygiene Society) Certificates, in asbestos surveys, and the management of asbestos where required.

We are fully insured as per the employer’s liability (compulsory insurance) (Jersey) Law 1973
